To reach Pulau Kembang from Banjarmasin, visitors embark on a scenic journey of approximately 15 kilometers, which takes around 30 minutes by boat. The adventure begins at the Kuin River, where visitors can rent a traditional motorized boat known as a "klotok." This river ride offers a unique glimpse into the vibrant local culture, passing by the bustling floating markets and picturesque stilt houses along the riverbanks. While the route to Pulau Kembang is straightforward, it’s recommended to hire a local guide who can share insights about the area’s history and ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.

Cost

The entrance fee to Pulau Kembang is affordable, with prices varying based on the day of the visit. On regular weekdays, the ticket costs Rp10,000 per person, while on weekends or public holidays, the price increases to Rp15,000 per person. This fee provides access to the island and its attractions, though it does not include boat rental costs. Visitors can also pay additional fees if they wish to feed the resident monkeys or rent traditional costumes for memorable photographs.

Also for renting a klotok to Pulau Kembang typically costs between Rp300,000 and Rp500,000, depending on the size of the boat and the length of the trip. This fee usually covers a round-trip journey and can accommodate small groups, making it an ideal choice for families or friends traveling together. Alternatively, for a more budget-friendly option, visitors can share a klotok with others for around Rp35,000 per person. These shared klotoks usually depart from the Siring area in Banjarmasin and offer a cost-effective way to enjoy the river journey while meeting fellow travelers. Some klotok operators also offer guided tours, which include detailed explanations about the local flora, fauna, and cultural significance of the island, enriching the overall experience.

Pulau Kembang is open daily from 08:00 to 17:00 WITA. Although the island is accessible throughout the day, it is best to visit during the morning or early afternoon to avoid the midday heat and to see the monkeys when they are most active. Visiting during these hours also allows for a more relaxed experience, as the natural surroundings are most vibrant under the morning sun.
